Care of wounds

• Open wound close to the anal margin after resection of the fistula path and external opening of the fistula.
• The suture of the rectal advancement flap lies in the anal canal.

After each bowel movement, rince the wound with the shower head 2 to 3 times a day if possible.

Place one or more dry or absorbent pads in your underwear for 2-3 weeks. The pads do not need to be sterile.

Occasional yellowish or bloody fluid loss during the first 2-3 weeks is normal.

During the day / night time:

• Loss of yellowish or bloody fluid is normal during the first 2-4 weeks. 
• We recommend placing an absorbent pad, sanitary napkin, panty liner in the underwear in contact with the wound to absorb any fluid leaking from the wound and protect the clothing.
• Take sitz baths or rinse the wounds with the shower head 2-3 times a day and if possible after every bowel movement.

Absorbent compresses /pads

Available in dressing shops, pharmacies, available without prescription (Zetuvit®, Hekasorb®,…).

When showering – bathing:

• You can take a bath or shower without protection.
• After showering dry the residual wound before applying and absorbent compress or pad.
• After the surgeon’s approval you can return to bathing.
